Life coaching has as its main goal the objective of helping people to determine where it is that they'd like to go in their life, and helping them to find the best way to get there. When a person meets with a life coach, they may have an initial meeting to determine where the person is coming from and what it is that they need to be striving for. Next they will meet at regularly scheduled sessions and will discuss the best way for the person to move forward. Sessions are often conducted by phone, which means you don't have to leave the comfort of your own home to get this type of counseling.

The coach will meet at the regularly scheduled sessions, but many life coaches also are available for help if you need it in between sessions. After your set length of time is up for your coaching sessions, you will be on your own, with what you have learned from your coach there to help you through.

The goal of life coaching is to help people move from the present into the kind of future that they would like for themselves. A life coach does not deal with the past, except for possible brief references, just to determine how you got to where you are today. If you have issues from your past that are making it hard for you to move forward with your life, you should consider seeing a therapist that specializes in these types of sessions.
